Toddler Summer Must Haves Part 2

Here is the second part of our toddler summer must haves. For reference, Babybel is 21 months old and has been enjoying these all summer.

Water gun

We bought these from a local shop in town, and didn’t really have many expectations of them, as we only paid £3 each for them. They are actually really good water guns, and Babybel has had great fun spraying us as she figured out how to use it pretty quickly. It’s great for her to practice strengthening her hand muscles, as well as keeping cool. We’ve also been spraying our chalk drawings away, which Babybel is fascinated by.

Ice Lolly Moulds

An ice lolly is another summer staple. As much as I’d love to live off of white Magnums and Twisters, we’re trying to teach Babybel about healthy eating habits, and eating ‘treats’ in moderation. So instead, I’ve been using fruit, yoghurt, and honey to make up toddler sized ice lollies using these NUK lolly moulds. They’re the perfect size for Babybel, both to hold, and the size of the lolly, and are full of nutritious things to keep her fuelled while she runs around everywhere.

Romper Swim Suit

Designed to keep as much of your toddler covered as possible, this has become an absolute must have this year.

Swim nappy

If your toddler’s still in nappies, a swim nappy is essential for trips to the beach, splash park, and at home during pool / water play time if your garden is overlooked and you don’t want your neighbours seeing your unclothed toddler running around. Normal nappies instantly suck in every single drop of water in sight, so you need a swim nappy, Note: swim nappies do not stop pees from getting out!

Footballs

Babybel absolutely loves football. And throwing, attempting catch, and running around, rugby style, with a ball. These squidgy ones from B&M are perfect for taking to the park, the beach, using in the paddling pool, and because they’re so light, she can even use them indoors.

UV tent

This is one of my favourite purchases for summer. We use it in the garden with the water table or the paddling pool in it, to keep the direct sunlight off of Babybel. Because it filters UV rays, I don’t have to worry about applying sunscreen as often when she’s in and out of the water. It’s also been great for the beach so that we can all have a little break from the sun, and also to keep the wind off of us at a very windy recent picnic!

Water bottle

Babybel loves water and her little water bottle comes everywhere with us. Although she can drink out of a cup, a water bottler is much easier to transport, and I do’t have to worry about her chucking her drink down herself when she’s distracted (which is most of the time!)

Water shoes

I would love to say that these were my idea, but John actually found them on Amazon. We were struggle to find soft, flexible shoes that were easy to get on and off, and didn’t cost £40 a pair. These water shoes are perfect for still developing toddler feet in summer, the flexible soles have got a good grip, they’re designed to be in water, and they cost less than £15 from Amazon.

Sunscreen

Last but not least is sunscreen. We kept Babybel completely out of the sun last summer as she was only 8 months old, so decent sunscreen this year was a must on her fair skin. Despite her mainly being in her romper swimsuit and hat, there’s still a bit of skin that definitely needs protecting.
