Toddler Summer Must Haves Part 1

Being a toddler in the summer seems to just be fun, fun, fun (apart from the tiredness that results from fighting bedtime because there’s too much going on)! Here’s what we’ve been using so far to keep Babybel occupied, safe, and cool during her first summer as a toddler. For reference, Babybel is 21 months old , so a ‘younger’ toddler.

Scramble Bug

Designed for toddlers that are still too little for a toddler bike, this is great for taking to the park, scooting round the garden, or even at home on those inevitable rainy UK summer days. Its non-scratch wheels are designed to be used indoors, and it’s foldable so will easily fit in the car boot, or under the pushchair.

Bubble machine

Babybel loves bubbles, and would quite happily chase them around for half an hour or more. A bubble machine takes away the need for me to constantly blow bubbles for her, and because of how much mess it makes, is perfect for outside.

Water table

We’ve had our water table for a couple of months now, and I can honestly say it has been used every day since. In the cooler days of early June, I filled it up with warm water, but since the weather has warmed up, I’ve just been filling it up using the hose.

Ours is from B&M, and is a sand & water table, plus accessories. We’ve not added sand yet but Babybel has been enjoying using the bucket, spade, water wheel, and other bits to practise pouring, as well as chucking water all over herself!

Paddling pool

This one goes without saying but it wouldn’t be a summer must haves piece without mentioning a paddling pool. We have a cheap inflatable one from Amazon, which is the perfect size for a toddler to splash around in (and for me to sit in on the days when it gets over 25C!).

Giant Chalk

These have been such a hit that I’ve just ordered a load more for Babybel’s 2nd birthday party. Designed for little hands, they’re easy to use, really bright, and wash off of everything really easily.

Hat

This is another obvious one but I thought I’d add it in here as we’ve found a couple of sun hats that Babybel will actually keep on (as you can see from the above pictures)! The ones with the little velcro straps that go under the chin are great for toddlers; they don’t blow away in the wind, and they’re not as easy to just pull off as the ones without straps. These are available everywhere and we’ve bought them from Amazon, Primark, and Asda.

Sunglasses

This is a situation where modelling actions really works. I’m putting sunglasses on, therefore Babybel wants to wear sunglasses. We’ve got a couple of pairs, but these ones with the straps from Amazon stay on really well.
