Here is part 2 of the unexpected things I’ve learned so far!
Everyone has opinions on your parenting
Everyone. Work colleagues, parents, in-laws, friends, old ladies in supermarkets, strangers on the internet. I’ve learned to just tune out all of the noise and trust my instincts. You also become so much better at standing your ground and advocating for your child.
Nothing goes to plan
My pregnancy didn’t, my labour most definitely didn’t, recovery and breastfeeding didn’t, even getting out of the door on time no longer happens! I like to be organised and plan what’s happening, and I’ve had to let go of this massively as most of it is completely out of my control these days.
You don’t even bat an eyelid when you get baby stuff on you
This week alone I’ve been covered in snot, solid bogies, sick, dribble, and poo. I’ve had a huge chunk of chewed up banana placed in my palm, and I’ve walked around with milk on my top. Before becoming a mum I would have got changed and washed my hands as soon as any of that touched me. Now I just weigh up if it’s harmful to me (poo), and if it’s not, just wait until I actually have time to get changed. It sounds gross, but I don’t think I have enough clothes to get changed every time Babybel gets something on me.
Your baby will love your singing
Babybel is probably the only person in the whole world who enjoys my singing but I’m sure as she gets older, that’ll change!
It goes so quickly
I know everyone says this, but it really does. One minute you’ve got a tiny newborn; then you blink and they’re crawling. And then before you know it, they’re running around, helping you do the housework and trying to get themselves dressed.
You can never take enough photos
I’ve taken at least one photo and video a day but it still seems like it’s not enough. You want to capture every facial expression and emotion, so that you can spend the time when you’re supposed to be sleeping looking at pictures of your baby!
